Dial-A-Lift
Long Beach Dial-A-Lift is a curb to curb, shared ride transit service
exclusively for persons who are unable to use the Long Beach Transit
fixed route bus system. Members must reside in and travel through
the cities of Long Beach, Lakewood and Signal Hill. Long Beach
Transit provides Dial-A-Lift under contract with Long Beach Yellow
Cab Co-op. Dial-A-Lift drivers are trained in the needs of persons
with disabilities, and Dial-A-Lift services are provided with vans that
are ADA compliant.
Who is Eligible to Ride Dial-A-Lift?
Resident of Long Beach, Lakewood or Signal Hill, who is at least
18 years of age, permanently mobility impaired unable to use the
Long Beach bus system, is eligible to apply for membership on
the Dial-A-Lift system. Persons using the service must be able to
wait for a ride at a curb for up to 30 minutes. Dial-A-Lift does not
provide medical support or gurney services. Applicants for DAL
must first be members of Access Services the ADA service provider.

How to Apply for Long Beach Dial-A-Lift
Call Long Beach Transit at (526) 591-8753 or text telephone at
(562) 599-1843, Monday through Friday, 8 AM to 4:30 PM.
After a short preliminary screening we may send an application
or direct you to the appropriate Paratransit service or service provider.
It is necessary to have a doctor complete the application before
sending the application to Long Beach Transit. With the application,
applicants must include a copy of their eligibility determination
letter from Access Services. After receipt of a complete application,
Long Beach Transit will schedule an interview for the applicant
with the Dial-A-Lift Administrator.
What Criteria are used to Determine Membership with Dial-A-Lift?
Membership is based on functional ability to use the Long Beach
Transit fixed route bus system. A doctor’s statement and the
Access Services eligibility letter are used to assist the administrator
to understand an applicant’s disability and limitations.
How Does Dial-A-Lift Work?
Upon meeting eligibility requirements, an applicant will receive a
Dial-A-Lift photo identification swipe card that will allow one to
use the Long Beach Dial-A-Lift service. Reservations may be made
for next day service arrangements by calling Long Beach Yellow
Cab Co-op, at (562) 435-0115 between the hours of 6:30 AM and
5:00 PM, seven days a week and up to 7 days in advance of the trip.
DAL offers trips from 7:00 AM to 10:30 PM Sunday through
Thursday and from 7:00AM to 11:30 PM Friday and Saturday.
Standing orders for repeated trips may be made. However, all
standing orders will be cancelled at the end of the year and must
be rescheduled for the new year.
Fees and Fares
The initial membership card fee is $2.00. Renewed cards
are reissued for $3.00. Lost cards are reissued for a fee of $5.00.
The Dial-A-Lift fare is $2.00 each way. This may be paid by
cash or by sending a check or money order to LAT/DAL 2129
W. Rosecrans Gardena, CA 90249 to have money credited
to your swipe card.
Riding with a Companion
A Dial-A-Lift member may ride with a companion if space is
available at the time the reservation is made. The companion
must pay the $2.00 fare each way and must be picked-up and
dropped-off at the same location as the DAL member.
Vehicle Arrival Time
As long as the vehicle arrives no later than 30 minutes past
the scheduled time, the ride is considered on time.
Will Call Return
One may arrange a “Will Call” return for doctor visits only.
Personal Care Attendants
For safety and other emergency needs, members registered as
requiring a Personal Care Attendant (PCA) must be accompanied
by their PCA while traveling on a DAL vehicle. The PCA rides
free of charge, and must be at least 18 years of age, and be able
to deal with medical and other potential emergencies. The PCA
must have the same pick-up and drop-off location and the DAL
member; when making reservations, pleases mention that a PCA
will be travelling also to ensure seat availability.
Service Animals
Service animals are always welcome on DAL. Please notify the
reservationist when making a reservation that a service animal will
accompany the member. All other animals must be carried in a
proper and approved animal travel carrier.
